I 1961 byttet Gibson kroppsformen på Les Paul Standard til den tynne, dobbeltutskårne formen vi i dag kaller SG, men navnet Les Paul stod på hodeplaten i et par år til. Denne reissuen gjenskaper akkurat den overgangen, med stoppestang i stedet for vibratoarm.
Hele kroppen og halsen er heltre mahogni. Uten lønntopp og med tynn kropp blir gitaren lett og mellomtonesterk, og de dype utskjæringene gir fri vei til høye bånd. Halsprofilen er Authentic 1961, som er slankere enn femtitallsprofilene.
Pickupene er Custombucker med Alnico 3 i begge posisjoner, med 2 volum og 2 tone på CTS 500K-potmetere og Black Beauty-kondensatorer. Stolen er ABR-1 med lettvekts stoppestang i aluminium, og maskinene er Kluson med enkel linje og dobbel ring.
Kantbåndet er enkeltlags kremfarget på gripebrettet, innleggene trapeser i celluloid. Nitrolakk i VOS og Custom Shop-koffert.
